Color:Color is very important. Study the color chart in this booklet for proper identification of the color of the horse. (Also located on the back of the registration application) If you do not feel secure with our choice of color, check the box that allows AMHA to designate the color as represented by the photographs you have submitted with the registration application.

Marking:Marking are very important. If you do not note markings which are not distinguishable by the photographs, those markings will not be noted on the registration certificate. Study the markings guide in this booklet and on the back of the registration application. If the horse is a pinto or an appaloosa with very distinguishable marking, it is not necessary to note those.

Sire:List the complete name and number of the sire. Be very careful that the name and number are correct and that the name and number are of the stallion, which is the sire of the horse being registered. If the incorrect sire is listed, genetic testing for parentage qualification will be required.

Dam:List the complete name and number of the dam. Be very careful that the name and number are correct and that the name and number are of the mare, which is the dam of the horse being registered. If the incorrect dam is listed, genetic testing for parentage qualification will be required.

Heights of Sire and Dam:Even if the sire and/or dam are Temporary Registered a height must be provided.

Signatures:Only the signature of the recorded owner of the dam at the time of foaling of the horse being registered will be accepted for registration.

SECTION 2- Breeder's Certificate:This section must be completed or a SERVICE CERTIFICATE attached, UNLESS the person registering the horse owned the sire AND dam at the time of service. Again, an incorrect possession date on the transfer of ownership will effect this portion. If the ownership is "and" all listed owners must sign.

SECTION 3- Ownership Transfer and Height Certificate:This section should be completed ONLY if ownership is to be transferred at the time of registration. If a person is registering the horse and transferring ownership at the same time, this portion should be completed. Height certification must be completed if ownership is being transferred at time of registration. If the ownership is "and" all listed owners must sign.

Fees:The fee schedule is listed on the back of the registration application and in this booklet, (see Work Order).

Photographs:Photographs have probably caused more problems in registering a horse than any other section. Applications must be accompanied by four (4) CURRENT color photographs with all markings visible or two (2) CURRENT color photographs with all markings visible. Be sure all four feet are visible in the side photographs; do not have the horse standing in hay, field or grass. Photographs must be no smaller than three by three inches (3x3) with the horse's image being eighty (80%) percent of the photograph. The four (4) photographs must be ONE from the left side ONE from the right side and TWO of the head facing into the camera with the entire flat of the face visible, with the forelock pulled completely aside. In the side photographs all four feet must be visible. Do not have the horse standing in hay field or grass. The two (2) photographs must be ONE from the left side, ONE from the right side. In BOTH photographs the horse's head must be turn toward the camera with the forelock pulled completely aside so the entire flat of the face is clearly visible.

Temporary Registration Certificate:A Temporary Certificate will be issued until the horse reaches thirty six (36) months of age.

Permanent Registration Certificate:If the horse is thirty-four (34) inches or under and thirty six (36) months of age, a Permanent Certificate will be issued upon receipt by AMHA of the original Temporary Registration Certificate and completion by the recorded owner of the height certification located on the back of the Temporary Certificate and photographs (as described above).
