What is the Halter Futurity exactly?

This is a program where breeders showcase yearling and two-year-old foals sired by stallions that are nominated prior to the birth of their foals. Yearlings placing 1st through 10th place at the World Show win cash prizes! How can you participate? There are four easy steps!

The Halter Futurity Committee Chair, John Bennett is happy to answer questions about the program of if you have questions about filling out the forms.  If you need more assistance, contact AMHA today at 817-783-5600! Mail all completed forms to AMHA, 5601 S Interstate 35W, Alvarado, TX 76009

***All Halter Futurity nominations are non-refundable and cannot be transferred to another horse***

BREED, NOMINATE, SHOW and WIN

BREED:

Breed your mares to a stallion that is going to be Halter Futurity Nominated.

NOMINATE:

Nominate the stallion by March 1st of the following year. For example, foals bred in 2023 and born in 2024 would need to have the stallion nominated on or before 3/1/2024. The current nomination fee is $150 per stallion annually.

The foal must also be Nominated, and this can be done one of two ways:

  • Nominate the Mare while the foal is in utero (prior to birth) for a fee of $50

or

  • Nominate the foal up to 2 months after it is born for a fee of $150.  Nominate the foal between 2-3 months of age for $300.  After the foal is over three months of age, you can nominate it to the Halter Futurity, IF THE SIRE WAS NOMINATED ON TIME, for an additional $100/month of age. For example, a sire was nominated, but the mare was not: you can post utero nominate the mare so the foal will be nominated. A foal that has reached its 4-month-old birthday is $400, a foal that is 5 months old is $500, etc. This applies to foals born after March 1st whose dams were not nominated prior to the March 1st deadline.  For foals born between Jan 1st and the March 1st deadline, the normal Mare nomination fee and form apply.

After the foal is born, send in the Yearling Futurity Form in with the Foal Registration Application so the office will stamp the Registration Certificate as “Nominated for the Yearling Futurity.” Submitting the Yearling Nomination Form is MANDATORY. There is no charge for this form.

During the foal's yearling year, bring him/her to the World Show and enter a Halter Futurity class. There are no other World Show qualification requirements for the Halter Futurity classes!
